Atlanta Shows Say Yeaher!

I got the new Black Lips album yesterday and it is rad. Here's an interview and song they did on 99X yesterday morning:

Black Lips Interview

Tonight there are two great shows going on. I'm going to Peter Bjorn And John and Clientele at the Variety Playhouse. Equally as cool is the Meat Puppets and Atlanta's Morning State are at The Earl.

Thursday night you can choose between The Coathangers at the Drunken Unicorn, Dead Confederate at the Earl, or Andrew Bird at the Variety Playhouse.

Friday night the Carbonas are at the Drunken Unicorn.

Saturday night it is all about the East Atlanta Strut Fest here in the A. The after-party at the Earl features Howlies (formerly Moresight), Elevado, Anna Kramer, and The Preakness. I might be going to Athens, Ga that night to see Akron/Family at the 40 Watt.

Friday Free-Style

The Shins will be at the Atlanta Civic Center on October 17th. Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow. I think Wincing The Night Away is one of the most overrated albums of 2007 and also one of the most underrated albums of 2007. Vids:

Speaking of early 2007 albums you might have forgot about, The Apples In Stereo will be playing at Park Tavern September 23rd for free thanks to 99x sponsorship in a series called Unplugged In The Park. From an epic episode of a great TV show:

PJ Harvey's new album, White Chalk, is in stores on September 25th.

Daft Punk has an official live album coming soon.

Here's a recent Kanye West with Peter John And Bjorn backing him performance:

In case you're keeping score, Jay-Z is the richest rapper.

Ryan Adams claims he has stopped snorting heroin and cocaine together.

Videos Of The Day: Lollapalooza 2007

I opted for Pitchfork Fest instead of Lollapalooza this summer for my now atleast yearly fest trip to Chicago, but Lolla was really awesome last year when I went and here's a little video in case you didn't get a taste either this year:

Lollapalooza Line-up Breakdown

Ok, so the Lollapalooza site still hasn't updated itself with all of the line-up, but everyone is reporting it as:

Daft Punk:

Iggy And The Stooges:

!!!:

Peter Bjorn And John:

So, now it is time to break it down and decide whether I'm going to travel to it again this year. First, The bands that I have not seen yet but want to really bad include: Daft Punk, Iggy And The Stooges, !!!, TV On The Radio (I won't be able to catch the shows tonight or tomorrow), and Peter Bjorn And John. Bands that I've seen multiple times but I will still travel to see include Pearl Jam and Yo La Tengo. Bands I want to see and haven't yet, but wouldn't necessarily convince me to travel to see include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys, Amy Winehouse, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Son Volt, Silversun Pickups, The Rapture, Tapes n Tapes, Annuals, and Illinois.

The big decision all depends on The Smashing Pumpkins and Virgin Festival in Maryland the same weekend. Seeing the Smashing Pumpkins is a big priority for me this year, and so far the only US dates they have are Virgin Fest and Live Earth (and I'm not going to Live Earth). I think i will wait a little while for Virgin Fest to announce its line-up, but I'm leaning towards Lollapalooza for 2 reasons:

1. There is no doubt in my mind that The Smashing Pumpkins will do a plethora of US dates. Billy Corgan is trying to hype this thing up as much as possible with the album drop weirdness, being so mysterious about the Pumpkins tour line-up, and I think he is purposefully not announcing US dates yet to get people to want them to more and create more hype.

2. Besides SP, i doubt that Virgin will be able to deliver a better line-up than Lolla. That line-up there is pretty deep, and if Virgin is going to exclude most if not all of those acts, i just don't see how it could be much better. Here's the mini-line up of the two Canadian versions of Virgin Fest: Vancouver and Toronto. Other than Bjork, who will definitely not be in Maryland, those line-ups are way too commercial radio and small.

Another thing is i am kinda put off by deciding to compete head-to-head with such a great, already established festival. When Music Midtown in Atlanta tried to go head-to-head with Bonnaroo, how did that work out?

So, my final decision is Virgin Fest has about a week or two to put their cards on the table, and if not, I'm heading to see Perry and Company again.

Smashing Pumpkins First US Date: Virgin Festival, plus Lollapalooza Update

As I keep hoping the Smashing Pumpkins will be at their hometown festival, Lollapalooza, they have been announced as a co-headlining spot at a US festival the same weekend. Virgin Festival, happening in Baltimore,MD August 4-5, will also feature The Police and The Beastie Boys. They will announce the rest of the line-up later.

Lollapalooza early-bird tickets go on sale April 3rd, while they plan to announce the full line-up on April 12th. Again, thanks to Sixtimes at the lollapalooza message board, here's the confirmations as they stand:
