Atlanta Album Preview: Snowden

Anti Anti was the summer jam for me last year after I finally got a copy, so I'm very much looking forward to the next album. The details seem murky right now, so here are some videos of new material they played at a show at The Earl back in February:

Corndogorama 2008 Saturday (Day 3)

Josh and I have both been covering Corndogorama, so we're going to tag team you with yesterday's events complete with photos from Biggie C:

JW: Following a super-charged Friday night, I managed to make it back to corndog land in time to catch Morning State. As usual, they put on a solid performance. "Never So Strange" kept the truly devoted satisfied. I listened to them through my hangover - something not afforded to lesser bands.

SK: I didn't make it to the fest until Thy Mighty Contract had taken the stage. This ATL supergroup certainly combined the best elements of their respective sounds into a serious sonic assault. I wish I could have heard a few more songs from them, but good Corndog sets always leaving you wanting more.

Since Untied States canceled due to some legal troubles, I ran down to East Atlanta and grabbed some grub at the Australian bakery and Josh went to see the Corndog Eating Contest.

JW: OK – that Boone guy showed up again with the belt just to show it off. 17 corndogs in 7 minutes. This anomaly has no competition. I was waiting for the little girl about a third of his size to spew when she got 5 of them down and started kneeling on the ground.

SK: Upon my return we caught Sonen. Their show was ok, but not anything that grabbed me. They struck me as a par, average Atlanta band. Not bad, but not good. Right after that it was time for A Armada and the explosions of sound washing across everyone's ears was unstoppable.

JW: A Armada blew people's asses off. This Athens outfit managed to make so much beautiful noise that it blasted through the walls and compelled those outside to come in and pack the main room early in the day. I can't wait to get more of them.

SK: They were a tough act to follow, but The NEC did as good a job as they could. The first time I saw them, I didn't like them because it sounded like they were ripping off the Black Lips too much, but now they have added some shoegaze to their sound and are leaning more in the Deerhunter direction. But while they seem to be noticeably influenced by the ATL big dogs, their style felt much more distinct and unique this time. It's great to see a band evolve and improve.

The next few hours were all about rallying for the big shows later that night, and we rallied hard. The only musical info I noted during this period was that The Hiss suck.

JW: We were at proper levels of intoxication for Gringo Star. Atlanta's own lovable southern rockers were given a little trophy from King Corndog during their introduction. I think it was for Best Corndogorama Band or something. With that, they came out firing. The guys have their own version of musical chairs with everyone taking their turn at the kit. Best energy of the day. The highlight of the show was the poppy jam "All Y'all." However, when the band were mid-stride in "March of the Gringo" some of the equipment started to fail…and then it became obvious that they had been CUT OFF. The aforementioned trophy was promptly shattered on stage, mic stands were getting some "treatment", and overall displeasures were being shouted. The immediate aftermath saw a stage manager waving a schedule in Nick's face – to which he slapped away. The guys went to cool down and I caught up with them after Snowden's set. Further backstory from Nick reveals that they had played Corndogorama years ago under much less stringent stage managers. They were put over 3 hours behind to go on – and they held their end of the bargain and lit it up anyway in the wee hours of the morning. Now they've been bitten by the corndog again under opposite circumstances. A truly "Black Night". Too bad you didn't get to hear it.

SK: I caught a little bit of All The Saints killing it inside before returning to the big outdoor stage for Snowden. They unleashed a set filled with hits from Anti Anti and a bunch of new material. As always, they are total badasses live. Some of the new material I liked and some I didn't, but I'm going to wait until the record comes out to pass any real judgment. Jordan said it was coming soon and eluded to some sort of legal issues might have been holding it up.

One last day of Corndogging, so it is time to do it to it.

Humpday Randomnimity

Bonnaroo made some line-up additions:

Cat Power
Zappa Plays Zappa
The Disco Biscuits
MSTRKRFT
Chromeo

Decent additions, but only the electronic acts get me excited. This is what we want.

Sasquatch Music Festival, the big daddy Memorial Day fest that goes down at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington state, just released a line-up:

R.E.M. / The Cure / The Flaming Lips U.F.O. Show / Death Cab For Cutie / Modest Mouse / M.I.A. / Flight Of The Conchords / Rodrigo Y Gabriela / Michael Franti & Spearhead / The Breeders / Built To Spill / The Hives / Tegan & Sara / Ghostland Observatory / Ozomatli / The New Pornographers / Blue Scholars / The National / The Kooks / Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks / Cold War Kids / Beirut / Rogue Wave / Okkervil River / Fleet Foxes / Kinski / Mates of State / Sera Cahoone / Crudo (featuring Mike Patton & Dan The Automator) / Battles / Destroyer / Dyme Def / The Blakes / Pela / Jamie Lidell / The Cops / Dengue Fever / Siberian / Say Hi / White Rabbits / David Bazan / The Little Ones / "Awesome" / Dead Confederate / The Heavenly States / 65daysofstatic / Grand Archives / Vince Mira with the Roy Kay Trio / Joshua Morrison / Throw Me The Statue / J. Tillman / The Shaky Hands / Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down / Matt Costa / The Cave Singers

That's a hell of a line-up and now I'm really considering going to this. The Gorge is considered by many as the coolest venue in the US. Tickets are reasonably priced and go on sale Saturday March 8th. More details on their website.

Sonic Youth is headlining an Arkansas festival called Dickson Street Fest in April with Charlie Daniels, 38 Special, Shooter Jennings, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Little Feat. Weird line-up.

North Korea has invited Eric Clapton to play a concert there confirming that he indeed sold his soul to play guitar.

Medeski, Martin, And Wood have three albums planned for this year.

John Mellencamp and horror writer Stephen King are collaberating on a musical set to debut in Atlanta.

You can stream the new Tilly And the Wall album here. Watch new video here.

Cloud Cult have released a new single for their forthcoming album in April:

Cloud Cult : Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) : When Water Comes To Life

Track down a Velvet Underground 1967 vinyl bootleg to download here.

Have You Heard did a session with Atlanta's Trances Arc. I had been hearing some noise about this band, but now that I've looked into them, they are so not our style.

Wilco will be on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Dimmu Borgir will be streaming a live concert on April 5th.

Dr. Dre is getting in the alcohol business.

The Deftones are entering the studio next month to work on a new album.

Friday Night Free-Style

So the big local fiasco that happened last week that we hadn't talked bout yet was the MF Doom show. Apparently MF Doom came out way late in the morning, lip-synced to 20 minutes of a CD, and a bunch of people don't even think it was really him (he always wears a mask). From the MJQ promoter via myspace:

Many apologies go to all of you who came out to the MF DOOM show last night at MJQ and paid $30 of your hard earned money only to watch him lip sinc for 20 minutes at 1:30 in the morning. This was by far one of the single worst experiences I’ve had as a club promoter and I sincerely apologize if you walked away feeling cheated. To make matters even worse MF DOOMS appointed doorman took off with all the money from the door after the show! As soon as we realized the money was stolen we decided to help ourselves to all of MF DOOMS merchandise which included a bunch of T shirts and posters. So, in an effort to make it up to everyone who walked away feeling cheated, we’re giving away all the merchandise for free so come and get it while supplies last!! And if that’s not enough, feel free to let MF DOOM aka Daniel Dumile know how you really feel by calling him at his home in Kennesaw Georgia.

All the best,

Randy Castello / Tight Bros Network

Damn.

Ruby Isle have decided to start covering whatever song is #1 on the blog mp3 aggregator Elbows each week and releasing it for free. This is such a cool idea. Here's their cover of Beach House's "Gila" (you can listen to the original here):

Ruby Isle : Gila (Beach House cover)

So, Xiu Xiu and Fucked Up have filed a lawsuit against RJ Reynolds Tobacco for using their names, plus tons of other indie groups, in a Camel cigarettes add in Rolling Stone magazine without their permission. Add this douchiness to running Bob Dylan cover stories every three months and having no clue what the best music of 2007 was, and Rolling Stone may be more out of touch than MTV.

Lou Reed will be the keynote speaker at SXSW.

Beck's Odelay is getting the "Deluxe Treatment" and will be available with lots of extra goodies at the end of next month.

David Byrne interviews Thom Yorke on In Rainbows.

The Long Blondes have a new album out in April.

The Smashing Pumpkins are digitally releasing an acoustic EP called American Gothic on January 2nd.

Snowden is so hott the television show CSI Miami has used their cover of "Time Of the Season":

If for some reason you read this in time to check it out, Snowden are DJing tonight at DSC.

A cool show I recommend checking out tomorrow night:

I've been spending a ridiculous amount of time listening to albums from this year i hadn't got a chance to listen to until now to make sure I leave no rock unturned for my Top 50 albums list. I'll try to update my "heavy rotation list" sometime over the next few days, but until then, listen to these tracks of the stuff I've like best and then go get the album:

Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew : Spirit If... : Gang Bang Suicide

Plants And Animals : With/Avec : Lola Who?

Yeasayer : All Hour Cymbals : Sunrise

Jesu : Conqueror : Conqueror

Cloud Cult : The Meaning Of 8 : Chemicals Collide

Illinois : What The Hell Do I Know? : What Can I Do For You

I 'm chilling at Octane coffee shop right now because Comcast is horrible and my internet service through them basically doesn't work, so between that and me chillaxing for the holidays, posts will be sparse. My year end lists are taking a little longer than expected because i take them very seriously and i don't want to miss anything. I would anticipate my best EP list up around Christmas and my best LP list up right before New Years. Happy Holidays and Thanks for reading Ohmpark!

Snowden For The Holidays

Snowden is bringing you the Christmas cheer to get you in the mood. First, Snowden's Dave Payne has brought the band into the blogosphere with his own blog documenting all things Snowden. Check it out. Also, they have re-released their Licorice EP, where Jordan Jeffares gives you his take on some traditional Christmas songs. You can read all about it at Kissatlanta. It's a pretty interesting listen:

I really enjoyed the new material they debuted at the Variety Playhouse a couple weeks ago and can't wait for the new album. Go myspace friend them.

Best 2006 Albums Of 2007

Before I inundate you with all of my best of 2007 stuff, I want to do a little addendum to my 2006 top 50 Albums list. Over the course of this year I discovered some albums that came out last year but wasn't aware of because I wasn't blogging and researching obsessively then. These albums here should all have deserved to be on my top 50 list because they are all amazing. Despite being released in '06, though, these albums will always make me think of this year because of all the great times I had with them as the soundtrack. Pick up these essentials:

Beach House : Beach House

Final Fantasy : He Poos Clouds

Midlake : The Trials Of Van Occupanther

Portugal The Man : Waiter: "You Vultures!"

Silversun Pickups : Carnavas

Snowden : Anti-Anti

Untied States : Retail Detail

ATLien Bulletins

Jordan Jefferes of Atlanta's Snowden is moving up to Chicago to write their next album. He's looking for some support via their myspace:

t's crazy what some people will do to break writer's block. Kidding. Well, it's partially true. The second record needs to be ace and I need to rustle my feathers. After years of trying to break the seal and try another city I'm finally going to do it, or at least try to. I have a place lined up in Logan Square. What I need from you is the following.
- a job, part time, bartending preferred but boy would I love to get out of the service industry(resume and writing samples upon request)
- someplace to park my tiny trailer (got a driveway in the burbs?)
- junk furniture, your trash is my trea....well, it will keep my clothes off the floor
- advice - what are your favorite spots? bars, coffee, diners, scenic spots, museums, massage parlors...
- drummers, if I could take Chandler with me I would. He could saute you with his skillz. However, I may need some work done here and there and I can't afford first class plane tix every time I need a disco high hat line.

Hit me back with your contact info and I will shower you with praise and pats on the head when I arrive.

Atlanta Music Updates

Saturday night I went to Lenny's for their one year anniversary show. Unfortunately Atlas Sound, Bradford Cox of Deerhunter's solo/side project, did not show up and Psychic Heart's mini-set didn't start until after 11:30pm, but at least Snowden kicked ass as always. Stickfigure Distribution has just reissued their self titled EP debut release. Here's a sample:

Scorchin' Shows In Hotlanta This Weekend

This is a killer weekend for ATL shows. Tonight there's an interesting house party worth looking into (We Like House Parties):

141 MORELAND AVE.: the booze, das manics, cancer slug (huntsville al), the trophy wives all ages 9:00 pm / Cover TBA (no more than $4) (Das Manics first house show, Cancer Slug are touring, and The Booze will make us dance! Goose's email: skorpionstomp@gmail.com, Moreland Ave's Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/morelandave)
Also, I've been meaning to check them out, but people tell me Club Awesome is indeed awesome, and they are at The Earl tonight doing some weird thing where they play in front of video of them playing at The Earl a month ago. sounds interesting:

Confessions Of A Music Addict's Pick of the Week is Friday night at The Earl with Tiger! Tiger!, Tenement Halls, and Thee Crucials.

Other good Friday night shows include Moresight (Who David was talking about earlier this week), The States, and Treasury at Lenny's. Stickfigure Distribution has a great show at Eyedrum with Envie, Jaggery, and The Ghost Projects. The Decatur Social Club even has a special guest from Australia, Riot In Belgium, for your late night happenings. And if you're looking for something even more underground:

THE CRACKHOUSE: coke party: dance your panties off with judi chicago , chapter 13 , terminus, cut teeth DONATE MORE (www.myspace.com/crackhouseatl)

ISP has one Ohmpark Favourites Parade friday night:

Monday Mash-Up

Snowden is playing a show next Saturday to make up for missing Corndogorama. It is supposed to be their last Atlanta show before going and making their next record. It will also feature Psychic Hearts and Bradford Cox of Deerhunter's solo project Atlas Sound. Yaher!

Akron/Family
has a new album coming out September 10th called Love Is Simple. Remember they will be in Athens, Ga at the 40 Watt on September 15th and I highly recommend checking them out because they were one of the best shows I've seen all year. Check it out:

The new season of PBS's Austin City Limits TV show begins in October and will feature Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, The Decemberists, Wilco, Regina Spektor, Explosions In The Sky, Lucinda Williams, and others.

The new Prefuse 73 album called Preparations comes out October 23rd.

Eddie Vedder's anti-George Bush comments during the Pearl Jam Lollapalooza show got edited out of the webcast by AT&T.

Nine Inch Nails are working on a TV show based on their latest album Year Zero.

Cat Power is doing another covers album.

Amy Winehouse has got some drama.

Remember the Black Lips are playing the Clairmont Lounge Thursday night. Here's a video for a track from the upcoming album:

Theree other good local shows this week include Slow Motion Crash at The Masquerade Tommorrow, From Exile at Lenny's Wednesday night, and The Orphins and Moorish Idols at ISP Thursday night..

Beach House and Grizzly Bear are touring together, but unfortunetly nowhere near Atlanta. You out of town readers need to go see this if they are playing near you. Here's the video for Beach House's "Master Of None":

Corndogorama = Hells Yeah

This is probably Atlanta's best music festival and I really wish they would not have scheduled it the same weekend as Pitchfork Fest, but oh well, I'll at least go tonight. I'm interested to see what it will be like for the first time at the new Lenny's. For those of you going to this, here's what i suggest you don't miss:

I'm not very familiar with most of Thursday's line-up but Friday, make sure you go see Parade at 6pm or The Coathangers at 10pm. Saturday is an incredible line-up. Be sure to get there 12:30 pm to catch DJ Klever. 2pm go see Slow Motion Crash and at 2:30pm don't miss The Orphins. At 6:15pm check out Zoroaster and 7pm brings the biggest conflict of the fest between Untied States and The Preakness. One Hand Loves The Other hits the stage at 10:30pm and at 11:30pm be sure to see The Selmanaires and Snowden back-to-back. On Sunday, be sure to get there by 3pm to see Moorish Idols. You should check out Tenth To The Moon at 4pm and the Jupiter Watts at 5pm. And of course Atlanta's biggest band right now, Mastodon, closes out the corn dogs at 9:30pm.

Get more info at the Corndogorama site.

Here's some videos to get you in the mood: See you tonight!

The Smashing Pumpkins are releasing 4 different versions of their new album.

The Go! Team are dropping their new album on September 11th. Here's a new video:

Austin City Limits Festival has posted its schedule. After looking at it, I decided not to go to this as i was planning, not so much that they did a bad job on the schedule, but the line-up just didn't seem as good as it initally seemed to me.

The Mars Volta are currently recording their fourth full length that should get released in the fall. Hells Yeah.

Radiohead's new album is also due out this fall.

Listen to tracks off of the new Animal Collective album here.

Despite some confusion earlier, it turns out Mastodon is headling Corndogarama. Here's a vid:

Bonnaroo Weekend In The ATL

If you aren't going to the 'roo this weekend, it is still a really great week for shows in Atlanta. Tonight you can see Rush at Hi-Fi Buys, The National at The Earl, or Les Claypool at Variety Playhouse. Thursday night there's a great show at The Earl I highly recommend with Maserati, The Liverhearts, and Good Friday Experiment. Friday night there is a ridiculous amount of great shows. First, Battles, who I've fallen in love with recently, will be at The Drunken Unicorn. That's my pick of the week. But there are three other great shows. Lenny's is hosting The Stills and Go Motion, who we saw and was amazed by earlier this year. The Earl is boasting my new ATL faves Snowden, plus All The Saints and The N.E.C. Then Feist and Grizzly Bear, who we heart, are at The Variety Playhouse. Seriously, if you are not going to Bonnaroo you are required to go to one of those four shows friday night or you will lose mega cool points.

A Weekend In The City

It's a great weekend for shows in the ATL. Today is all about Bloc Party. First, you can catch them for free doing a DJ set in Criminal Records at 6pm and later that night they will be at The Tabernacle with Maccabees and The Noisettes. While you are at Criminal Records, you can pick up the Whirlyball 7", which features songs from Deerhunter, Selmanaires, Carbonas, and The Coathangers. The purchase of that record will also gain you entrance to the show Friday night featuring all of those bands at the Whirlyball place in the 'burbs. I saw Mogwai there last year and it is an interesting venue. If you have a ticket to the soldout Kings Of Leon show at The Tabernacle Friday night, you will get to see the much better bands on the bill, Snowden and The Features. Another great Friday night show you could catch is Silver Lakes, Wax Fang, and Slushco at The Earl. Late night after all of the great music, Decatur Social Club is celebrating its 3-year anniversary and it looks to be really crazy.

Saturday and Sunday you should head down to The Virginia Highlands for Summerfest. The Selmanaires and Anna Kramer will be at Lenny's Saturday night while Mitch Easter, Tim Lee 3, and The Preakness will be at The Earl. I think I'll be checking oujt the Screening of the new Flight Of The Conchords HBO show sponsored by Kissatlanta at The Doo Gallery. As you might remember, I love these guys and am excited to see them at Bonnaroo. If you're interested in attending, it is free, but you must RSVP. If you're into hip-hop, you should go to The Masquerade Saturday night for Sage Francis, Buddy Wakefield, Buck 65, and Alias.

Ok, how about some tracks to preview:

What The Hell Am I Listening To?!?

Atlanta music:

Slow Motion Crash : Slow Motion Crash

This is my pick for release of the week. Slow Motion Crash took an epistemology of dance-rock and wrote a dissertation. On their debut, self-titled album they combined old songs I've loved with some great new material. Some may think this too derivative, but even in a genre that is becoming increasingly overcrowded, there is something special and unique here that has given me much enjoyment.

Lid Emba : Reason Isn't Radar

This is such a fun album for me to listen to because there's something new and crazy every other second. For those who don't remember, Lid Emba does experimental/ ambient/ electronic/ glitch/ noise/ avant-garde/ whatever you call it/ etc music and he does it well. I think there is something about the more organic approach he takes to a style usually embodied by synthetics that makes this album so interesting.

Snowden : Anti-Anti

As you already know, I've jumped on the Snowden bandwagon. I finally purchased Anti-Anti about a month ago and I've been listening to it non-stop. I've jammed this album so hard my truck CD-player literally broke, and now my copy is stuck inside of it. I can't put up anything off of the album until I buy another copy, but i searched around the Internet and I found a couple gems for your listening pleasure:

A Weekend In The A (featuring Sebadoh, Snowden, From Exile, Tenth To The Moon, Lid Emba)

Last weekend I tried to hit up as many different shows as possible. First, i went and checked out the Snowden and Selmanaires show at Rob's House (Records). Rob's House was just some dude's house in East Atlanta. They had a keg for people to drink and a tiny basement where the bands played to a tightly packed crowd of 30-50. The show time said 3pm, but i got there at 5pm and was still able to catch the end of The Selmanaires set. Snowden played next and rocked the basement out. I really like the idea of taking a typical keg party, adding some great bands and doing it early in the afternoon. Good stuff.

Snowden in Rob's Basement

After hitting some bars up and taking a smoke break at my house to listen to an album or two, i headed to the Earl to catch the Jupiter Watts show. i stayed for an hour and pretty sure i didn't see the Jupiter Watts but was way too drunk at this point to concentrate on doing a good review, so I'll have to come and see them again. I made it back to my neighborhood and hung out with the boys in From Exile late night as they did a mini-acoustic set:

In May, From Exile is going on tour on the east coast and Ohmpark will be taking it on the road with them chronicling this journey. We will have more details on that as soon as the tour is completely booked, but it is going to be a fiasco and I hope our non-ATL readers will come check them out. They just purchased an old prisoner transport van for the trip:

On Sunday i finally got a chance to check out the ISP Space. I have to say that i like it. It is very small, but the concept and the vibe are great. I had no idea who any of the bands playing were before i went, but i was very impressed with two of them. Lid Emba is Sean Moore playing on drum machines, a drum set, and a synth. Really cool ambient, noise, experimental electronic stuff. He closed with a really interesting mash-up/reinterpretation of Black Sabbath's War Pigs, and despite being one of the most over-covered songs of all time, it was still stunning. I got a copy of his debut album, Reason Isn't Radar, and after an initial listen, I really like it.

Next up was Tenth To The Moon. This three piece consisted of two older gentleman on bass and keys, and some crazy kid fronting the band switching around from vocals, to drums, to drum machines. I guess on a broad scale I would call it experimental noise-dance. At one point the vocalist pulls out a huge metal shield that is plugged into the sound system that he beats to death with his drum sticks. Really good music and a very entertaining live show that you should check out.

I finally made my way over to Sebadoh at the Variety Playhouse just in time for Lou and the boys to come on. I'm not very familiar with Sebadoh, but they were really good. An enjoyable relic of the '90s. I have to say I enjoyed seeing Lou Barlow solo or Dinosaur Jr much more, but it was cool to see another manifestation.

Live Review: DJ Klever, Snowden, Variac (3-31-07) Lenny's (Plus, The Ohmpark Kenny Crucial Challenge)

Saturday night while Biggie C and Sleo went to the Ted Leo show, I decided to play the hipster and go to Lenny's. After grabbing some food and watching the first half of the Florida v. UCLA Final Four basketball game in Little Five Points I journeyed alone to the show. When I got there the place was very empty, but was packed tight by the end of Snowden's set. The hipster bicycle club Faster Mustache was celebrating its second birthday and everyone who's anyone in the Atlanta indie scene was in attendance including Bean Summer (Lenny's booking agent), Preston Craig (KissAtlanta and Decatur Social Club), and Kenny Crucial. Ok, we're going to stop the story here for a minute to talk about Kenny Crucial.

Last year at Bonnaroo, Sleo and I waited 6 hours to have a good spot for the Radiohead show. About midway through sitting and standing in a packed crowd, this guy is trying to squeeze past us and Sleo starts yelling at him. Apparently some other folks were holding his spot in front of us , and we eventually let him pass. Now I could go on a digression about concert attendee etiquette, but I'll spare you. After we got back to Atlanta, we started to notice the same guy that cut in front of us at almost all of the shows we were going to. We even developed nicknames for him. Just a couple weeks ago, Creative Loafing here in Atlanta ran a cover story devoted to this same guy. He goes by the name "Kenny Crucial" and you can learn more about this "local legend" and "Philosopher" at his own site. Well, now the Atlanta scene is consumed with Kenny-Crucial-Mania. Even Atlanta Music Guide, who is always like 3 years behind the trends, has an article about him. So, I'm going to bite. We here at Ohmpark will feed into the hype and have some fun with this.

Another weird personality I met this year while hitting fests was Beatle Bob. Beatle Bob looks like a retarded Gallagher Brother( ok, a more retarded Gallagher Brother) and i first saw him at Wakarusa last year at the Camper Van Beethoven/Cracker show on stage dancing around in a really strange and ridiculous way. I later talked to him briefly at Bonnaroo and saw him go on stage and introduce both Sonic Youth and Sleater-Kinney at Lollapalooza. There are many mythical stories about Beatle Bob such as the fact that he has supposedly gone to a show every day since 1996 and disputed claims that he was a radio DJ in St. Louis (his hometown). He is known nationally , has a dance named after him, somebody is making a documentary about him and there is even a petition to have him stop being such a spectacle called Beatle Bob Sit Down.

So, here's the deal. St. Louis can suck it. We're going to try and make Atlanta's own Kenny Crucial bigger than Beatle Bob. It's going to be a difficult endeavor because Beatle Bob is very big. We are going to undertake a multi-phase plan. Phase one: We are announcing the Ohmpark Kenny Crucial Challenge. KC needs even more exposure. He needs full coverage. So, from here on out we are challenging you, the reader, to catch Kenny Crucial at shows with your camera phone. You can send your pics to icaughtkenny@ohmpark.com or just post them at Camura if you have an account. We will post the best phone logs here and keep up with the adventures of The Crucial One. After a yet-to-be-determined time, we will award the photographer of the best Kenny Crucial pic some concert tickets to a band they like. Most likely. So, be on the look-out. He is usually at the front of the most hipsterish show of the night. Here's a pic to help you find him, but it's not hard:

Good luck!

ok, what was i writing about? Oh yeah, the show. First I saw Variac and they were ok. Kinda sounded like a sloppy mix of Blur and the Black Crowes. They aren't bad at what they do, it is just what they do is kind of boring and derivative. After a tri-cycle race inside the venue was held, Snowden went on. I had never seen Snowden, but they have been hyped pretty heavily lately and some believe they could be the Nirvana that breaks the Atlanta scene through. I listened to their music and I always thought it was good, but I just didn't understand why everyone was so in love with them. Well, after seeing them live, now I know. They take that Bloc Party intensity and amplify it ten fold. They are the anti-Interpol in that way. I highly recommend you check them out live because it was amazing. I don't know that they can single-handedly blow up the Atlanta scene, but they a great band:

Next up was DJ Klever. This was my first time seeing him as well and it was off the chain. I hadn't seen a crowd in a club dance that hard since I was a raver. He led off with a Tomahawk Chop anthem with a beat and it then went all over the place. Just an amazing DJ. I mean, he is an international superstar and rightly so. I'll be catching him and Snowden every chance i get:

Klever is touring with the Gza and they will be doing Atlanta on May 28th at the Loft. Snowden are playing with the Selmanaires on April 7th at Rob's House.
