Record Review: Russian Spy Camera - Mutiny In The Kitchen With Knives

Russian Spy Camera has recently posted their new record, Mutiny In The Kitchen With Knives, for free. It is a quirky collection of classic rock influences as well as some more contemporary shout-outs. The opener is an epic, Television - inspired jam that stands out as the most indulgent and longest track on the record. As the record progresses, more straightforward tracks like "Cryptology" wear out the Bowie and Clash worship through some great piano work and Strummer-esque vocal noodling. Electronics-tinged tracks like "Hotels" takes a stab at some groove-inspired rock that Muse began to touch on their latest record; an audible hip hop influence. "Cults" further professes the band's love for Muse as synth arpeggios layer over a riff that sounds like it came off the Stills' first record. The record even tackles a few acoustic ballads, like "The Obsolete Man" and the album closer, "Pickpockets" (presumably shooting for a Weezer - Butterfly type vibe). The pace is consistently fresh. Mutiny In The Kitchen With Knives changes gears confidently, quickly, and to great effect, with tunes that are impressively broad in scope and yet retain the tightness of a pop rock record.

This month has witnessed not only established giants Nine Inch Nails release a free record, but also local Athens band, Russian Spy Camera. Seeing brave moves like this from both the upper and lower tiers of the music business is exciting and speaks to the rapidly changing state of the industry; hopefully the trend will continue. It seems that the Nine Inch Nails endeavor was quite the success, so we can probably expect so (check out the behavior of The Raconteurs and even The Smashing Pumpkins). Russian Spy Camera have adopted a simpler pricing scheme ('pay us if you want to').

The record is available at their website: http://www.russianspycamera.com/

Humpday Randomnimity

Bonnaroo made some line-up additions:

Cat Power
Zappa Plays Zappa
The Disco Biscuits
MSTRKRFT
Chromeo

Decent additions, but only the electronic acts get me excited. This is what we want.

Sasquatch Music Festival, the big daddy Memorial Day fest that goes down at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington state, just released a line-up:

R.E.M. / The Cure / The Flaming Lips U.F.O. Show / Death Cab For Cutie / Modest Mouse / M.I.A. / Flight Of The Conchords / Rodrigo Y Gabriela / Michael Franti & Spearhead / The Breeders / Built To Spill / The Hives / Tegan & Sara / Ghostland Observatory / Ozomatli / The New Pornographers / Blue Scholars / The National / The Kooks / Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks / Cold War Kids / Beirut / Rogue Wave / Okkervil River / Fleet Foxes / Kinski / Mates of State / Sera Cahoone / Crudo (featuring Mike Patton & Dan The Automator) / Battles / Destroyer / Dyme Def / The Blakes / Pela / Jamie Lidell / The Cops / Dengue Fever / Siberian / Say Hi / White Rabbits / David Bazan / The Little Ones / "Awesome" / Dead Confederate / The Heavenly States / 65daysofstatic / Grand Archives / Vince Mira with the Roy Kay Trio / Joshua Morrison / Throw Me The Statue / J. Tillman / The Shaky Hands / Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down / Matt Costa / The Cave Singers

That's a hell of a line-up and now I'm really considering going to this. The Gorge is considered by many as the coolest venue in the US. Tickets are reasonably priced and go on sale Saturday March 8th. More details on their website.

Sonic Youth is headlining an Arkansas festival called Dickson Street Fest in April with Charlie Daniels, 38 Special, Shooter Jennings, Michael Franti and Spearhead, and Little Feat. Weird line-up.

North Korea has invited Eric Clapton to play a concert there confirming that he indeed sold his soul to play guitar.

Medeski, Martin, And Wood have three albums planned for this year.

John Mellencamp and horror writer Stephen King are collaberating on a musical set to debut in Atlanta.

You can stream the new Tilly And the Wall album here. Watch new video here.

Cloud Cult have released a new single for their forthcoming album in April:

Cloud Cult : Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes) : When Water Comes To Life

Track down a Velvet Underground 1967 vinyl bootleg to download here.

Have You Heard did a session with Atlanta's Trances Arc. I had been hearing some noise about this band, but now that I've looked into them, they are so not our style.

Wilco will be on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Dimmu Borgir will be streaming a live concert on April 5th.

Dr. Dre is getting in the alcohol business.

The Deftones are entering the studio next month to work on a new album.

Shearwater have a new single for their upcoming album due in June:

Live Review: Voodoo Music Experience

The weekend before Halloween, we went down to New Orleans to catch Voodoo Fest. We arrived downtown early Friday, checked into the bed and breakfast we were staying at, hung out for a second, and headed down to City Park where the fest was located. Since the line-up had been announced, one of the acts I was most excited about seeing was Ghost, whose album from this year, In Stormy Nights, I've loved. Unfortunately, when we went to set up to catch them, they weren't the Japanese noise-rock group Ghost, they were the New Orleans nu-metal, rap-funk group Ghost. We felt like we had just got punked. After that debacle, I went to catch Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and they were ok, but nothing really special.

Next up was Porcupine Tree, who put on a hell of a show jamming out hard. There was a relatively small crowd for this show and even Steven Wilson joked around about no one there knowing who they were. If you still haven't looked into this band, do it now!

After wandering around the fest for a little while, we caught M.I.A. from afar while we waited for Rage. I was disappointed with her sound live, but hip-hop live almost always leaves me wanting and i was pretty far from the stage, so I won't hold it against her, but I just don't think I understand completely why everyone is so into her. Her rap style is so monotone and repetitive. I've listened to her new album a few times and I just don't think she sounds that special.

After that, it was time for the main event, Rage Against The Machine. I had caught them at Phillips Arena back when they were touring for Battle Of Los Angeles and had loved that show so I was very excited to catch them here. They played a little longer than an hour, went through most of the hits, and by the end, I didn't think it compared to the first time I saw them at all. They were very sloppy and didn't sound like they were together at all, which is surprising to me since most of them have been playing together in Audioslave. The other main problem was the crowd didn't really seem to be into them at all. When I caught them before, my favorite part of the show was watching the entire crowd go nuts, and this time it just didn't seem to inspire that sort of reaction. Overall, though, it was still great seeing them again.

When we got back to our place Friday night, before heading down to Bourbon St. until 5am, we found a note from the woman running the bed and breakfast accusing us of eating her food in the freezer. The next morning, Biggie C woke up first to go through his photos from the day before and the woman came out and started screaming at him about the supposed missing food. After about an hour and a half of drama, the end game was that she was mistaken about the food and since Biggie C didn't apologize for disagreeing with her about the fact that we didn't eat the food, she kicked him out of the bed and breakfast. So we then had to waste another hour finding hotel to stay at for the rest of the weekend. The crappy B&B's email is hosts@ArtsBandB.com, so we urge all our readers to have some fun with that.

Saturday I didn't really get to catch much music because of the above fiasco, but i caught a little bit of Ghostland Observatory, Ben Harper, and Spoon, who were all decent but not inspiring.

The best show of the weekend in my opinion was next, The Smashing Pumpkins. While I had some trouble enjoying the Asheville show I had caught over the summer because I didn't know most of the songs they played, now that i know and love Zeitgeist, they were simply amazing. The almost two-hour set contained very little old-school hit songs you would expect from the typical festival show, but rather put on a compelling display of why the nu-Smashing Pumpkins are phenomenal in their own retro-rock 'n' roll way. If you can score a ticket to one of the make-up Atlanta shows this month, do it. For all of the music critic masses that just won't take the new album seriously, you're only depriving yourself of some great tunes.

After that, I caught the Tiesto set, who did some pretty good trance, capped by a Tegan And Sara remix that was, for better or worse, stuck in all of our heads for the rest of the weekend.

Sunday I started on the tiny stage to check out Good Guys, I really interesting hybrid of metal and Lounge music. This New Orleans native band came out dressed in Ghostbuster uniforms and were really cool and weird. If you want to hear something unlike anything you've heard before, i recommend checking them out.

Next up I checked out Quintron And Miss Pussycat. Despite the fact that Miss Pussycat , Quintron's wife, seemed more like a prop than a musician, Quintron tore it up with a really interesting array of instrumentation that apparently he has invented or built. I was way in the back for the show so I didn't really get to see everything he was using, but I hope to catch this New Orleans act again, maybe at one of their upcoming Mardi Gras shows.

After that I caught the end of the Black Crowes show, and it was better than the first time I saw them at Bonnaroo, which was terrible, but they just aren't my thing. Common came on next and I thought he put on a really great show, with a full band backing him. After that I caught Wilco to close out the fest and they rocked just as hard as their spectacular Bonnaroo set earlier this year, but I didn't quite like the song selection as much. There is no denying that Wilco as it is now is a pretty top-notch band and I will go see them every chance I get.

My overall impression of my second Voodoo experience was overwhelmingly positive. I'm a big fan of the two opposing stages going back and forth keeping music constantly going that both Pitchfork Fest and Lollapalooza also employ. The sound systems seemed to have a minimal amount of problems, although I did hear a few. My biggest complaint about the weekend would be the crowd. At the peak times on Friday and Saturday, there were ridiculously long lines for the bathrooms and food and beer outlets, but the Voodoo Fest's estimates on attendance were over 150,000 people for the weekend, up over 50% from the previous year's 93,000, so i don't think they were fully prepared for so many people. Also, the crowd seemed to remind me most of the Music Midtown crowds of a few years ago that don't exude the same level of respect for their fellow festival goers you expect at hippy fests like Echo Project and Bonnaroo. But for me, those were only minor annoyances that did very little to curb the fun I had this year at Voodoo and I'm looking forward to checking it out again next year.

July/August Wrap-Up

The Smashing Pumpkins Asheville residency show I caught may have left me wanting, but I have decided that I love Zeitgeist. I know this is certainly not an opinion that many critics are going to share, but I think there are some reasons for that. Of course Billy Corgan's personality is going to put off some people and the lack of original members makes some people not take this work as seriously as they should. Also, I believe the album employs many sounds that are not particularly in style at the moment and there is nothing really ground-breaking about it. All of that said, this is just simply a really great album. The more familiar I become with it, the more I enjoy it. I have always been a James Iha fan, but I no longer believe he is necessary for the Smashing Pumpkins franchise to be legitimate.

Smashing Pumpkins : Zeigeist : United States

I skipped most of the Corndogorama for Pitchfork Music Fest in Chicago. It was really fun and despite sound problems, all and all a pretty sweet fest. Our coverage:
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3/Wrap-Up

We got some good photos of Parade's in-store Criminal Records show. Remember they are playing for free this Saturday night.

Marnie Stern exceeded my high expectations with her amazing show and is one of 2007's best artists in my opinion. I swear we'll have video from the show up soon.

Another great summer show I caught was Portugal The Man. Two things I took from the show is that I didn't think a band could fit 10 people on the Drunken Unicorn stage jamming/dancing/working lights at one time and Portugal The Man's new blues-rock sound on Church Mouth further displays how much stylistic range this band has.

Biggie C went down to Savannah to catch the Daniel Johnston show.

Thanks for reading! Come down to the 'park this Saturday night and have some beers on us.

Live Review: Smashing Pumpkins (6-26-2007) The Orange Peel, Asheville, NC

Photos by Jill Donnelly

Before i go into my review of the show, i think I'll give you my perspective on the band. In a time period where old bands seem to reunite every hour, one of the most important reunions in a while clearly seems to be the Smashing Pumpkins, despite only two of the original members being part of it. The ascension of the Pumpkins in the middle '90s represent a high water mark for the last golden age of pop music and underground music peacefully coexisting together. After dominating the Billboard charts, the Grammys, and the MTV music awards with Mellon Collie And Infinite Sadness, they were probably the last "biggest band in the world" to really exist. As a teen at the time, The Pumpkins represented everything I loved about the '90s music scene. I had to purchase Siamese Dream several times due to playing the tape so much it would get ruined. Mellon Collie is inextirpably linked to almost all of my memories of the summer of 1996, one of the best summers of my life. But midway through that summer, with the overdose of their touring keyboardist and the subsequencial kicking out Jimmy Chamberlain from the band would mark the beginning of the end of not only the Smashing Pumpkins, but also the end of an era in music. I can remember being so angry about them kicking Jimmy out of the band. I mean you're in a rock band, you're supposed to be doing drugs! That combined with the release of Adore, which to this day I still don't really like (I mean Kid A is the same idea, only 1000 times better), officially ended my fanboy days with the Pumpkins.

So, after waiting a few years worth of reunion rumours and the lame ticket buying experience, i finally got to see a band i loved as a kid in a tiny 1000 person venue just an arms length from Billy Corgan. We got to the venue probably around 3pm in the afternoon and there were only about 50 people in line in front of us. I think this wait would technically be longer than what i waited to get up close for Radiohead at Bonnaroo last year but at least in line here you could purchase beers and food easily and get out of line to use the restroom so it wasn't that bad. The opening band was pretty good even though they were not my style (although I wish i went one of the nights Deerhunter was opening). The Pumpkins came out next and rocked out for three hours. Billy Corgan was very much the star of the show and even if this is completely the case musically, the dynamic just seems unbalanced without James Iha's stage presence. The Faux-Iha replacement, Jeff Schroeder, played his part brilliantly from a musical perspective, though. Very "shoegazy" jamming stuff that I enjoyed alot. The Faux-D'arcy, Ginger Reyes, looked like she could have fallen apart at any second. She held her own, but it was very entertaining to watch her constantly watch Billy and Jimmy looking so scared. They even brought along a Faux-overdosed tour keyboardist.

Overall, the show was really great, but I think it was lacking a little to my high expectations. Mostly because I didn't really know but a handful of songs. This usually doesn't deter me from enjoying a band, but it did seem to a little this time and as i think about it I'm still not quite sure why since most everything i didn't recognize i enjoyed a lot. I think maybe there is just a clear difference between the old stuff and post-Mellon Collie Billy Corgan stuff. Also, I don't think it really detracted from the music at all, but there was something lacking in my mind without at least James in the band. Regardless of my own critical thinking getting in the way, i highly recommend checking them out somewhere along what I'm guessing will be an endless amount of touring (hey, i asked for it) and I'm excited to hear the new album that came out today.

Friday Free-Style

We start today with a video of The Smashing Pumpkins comeback show:

I never covered the Pitchfork Fest additions of Mastodon, Junior Boys, Voxtrot, Cadence Weapon, Brightblack Morning Light, The Field, Cool Kids, and William Parker Quartet. Now with the combination of a night with legendary artists performing some of the best albums ever written and two days of the people making the very best albums of the last 2 years, I think musically this is by far the best festival of the year. On top of that, it is only 50 bucks for three days so it is also the greatest bargain of the year. I often have my quips with Pitchfork's opinions but they sure nailed this line-up. Here it is in case you forgot:

Friday, July 13:

Sonic Youth perform Daydream Nation
GZA/Genius performs Liquid Swords
Slint perform Spiderland

Saturday, July 14:

Yoko Ono
Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues (w/ members of Dirty Three, the Delta 72, and Blues Explosion)
Clipse
Mastodon
Iron and Wine
Battles
Grizzly Bear
Voxtrot
Califone
The Twilight Sad
Girl Talk
Dan Deacon
Oxford Collapse
Professor Murder
Fujiya & Miyagi
Beach House
William Parker Quartet
Ken Vandermark's Powerhouse Sound

Sunday, July 15:

De La Soul
The New Pornographers
Of Montreal
Stephen Malkmus
Jamie Lidell
The Sea and Cake
Junior Boys
Menomena
The Ponys
Deerhunter
Klaxons
The Field
Cadence Weapon
The Cool Kids
Craig Taborn's Junk Magic
Nomo
Brightblack Morning Light
Fred Lonberg-Holm's Lightbox Orchestra

Anybody you don't recognize on that list, you should look into immediately. More info on Pitchfork Fest here. We will be there and you should too.

The hometown fest that is still the most fun of the decade, Bonnaroo, has announced its cinema tent schedule.

The Smashing Pumpkins Ticket Debacle

After partying all night Saturday night, Me and some friends prepared to purchase tickets to the Smashing Pumpkins residency at the less than 1000 person capacity Orange Peel in Asheville, NC yesterday morning. We had 6 people and were utilizing 10 computers. As soon as tickets went on sale at 1pm, we began refreshing the page as fast as possible. The Orange Peel was using a company called Ticketweb to purchase tickets, and they are so horrible they make you appreciate ticketbastard. Basically the end result was hours of trying to get tickets, and nothing. Pages wouldn't load, your place in line would get lost, and there was even an annoying survey before you could buy them to crash the system. Moral of the story is Ticketweb sucks really bad and I hope they go out of business. Luckily, the Orange Peel is cool and has decided to fire those amateurs and use ticketmaster. So, they have said that less than 10% of total tickets available got sold yesterday, and that tickets will go on sale either this afternoon or tomorrow. So, if you forgot about these amazing shows, or had wasted a Sunday afternoon wanting to smash your computer, you still have a chance to attend one of the biggest music events of the year. For updates, check out the Orange Peel website and good luck.

Friday Free-Style

Saturday night we got a great show for you featuring Passer By and From Exile's last show before going on tour. It's absolutely free, and we got some kegs of free beer for you 21+ kids. Come down and witness the spectacle:

Creative Loafing has a great article on the Atlanta scene blowing up. They also apparently just heard Darkside Of The Moon and just discovered Lenny's.

Interpol
will be at Hi-Fi Buys on June 2nd for 99X's Big Day Out. They don't like Youtube. Here's a Youtube video:

Aereogramme are breaking up.

Arcade Fire don't have a beef with file sharing. That's probably because no one would know who they were without it.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is pissed at his label.

So, I sort of liked the Lily Allen album when I heard it, but I'm really tired of hearing about her in music news and blog sites. If you don't know anything about it you can find lots of stories here, but I recommend avoiding that. In response to her attention-seeking, annoying behavior, Ohmpark will not mention her for the rest of the year (with the exception of reporting on my heckling of her at Bonnaroo).

Kanye West's new album, Graduation, comes out in September.

Word on the street is that there is no more 2Pac material left to make new albums, so we will assume he has finally died.

The new Animal Collective album, Strawberry Jam, comes out in September.

Pink Floyd played at a Syd Barrett memorial concert, but David Gilmour and Roger Waters were never together on stage.

You can stream the new Dungen album, Tio Bitar, here.

The new Nile record, Ithyphallic, is due out in July.

Smashing Pumpkins have finally announced who will be in the band. Here's the new album cover:

Here's Wilco on David Letterman:

UNEARTH have parted ways with their drummer.

Cee-lo and Danger Mouse have another Gnarls Barkley album coming out in the fall.

Girl Talk has quit his day job.

Sunset Rubdown's new album, Random Spirit Lover, comes out in October.

Snoop Dogg will be on an episode of HBO's Entourage in July.

Neurosis has new album coming out called Given To The Rising, and you can stream it and watch a short documentary on the making of it here.

Interviews for your reading pleasure:
Bright Eyes will be at The Fox Theatre tonight, so here's some videos:

Smashing Pumpkins Announce Nine Asheville Shows!!!

Check this out:

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced nine unprecedented shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC.

The Asheville shows mark the first time the Pumpkins will have played a residency since their four gigs at the Double Door in Chicago in 1994 before the release of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness.
Fans attending the Orange Peel shows are invited to capture the concerts with audio and video recorders.

General admission tickets for these all-ages shows go on sale Sunday, May 20. For the Asheville show, tickets ($20.00 each) will go on sale at 1:00 PM Eastern at www.theorangepeel.net or www.ticketweb.com.

PLEASE NOTE: Tickets for these shows will be available through internet ONLY. Tickets will NOT be available at either box offices, charge-by-phone or ticket outlets. Two-ticket limit per person. Purchaser must pick up tickets at the box office night-of-show only. Ticket-holders must immediately enter the venue. Photo ID required for ticket pick-up. Tickets are non-transferable. No refunds or exchanges. A service charge is added to each ticket price.

They are also doing a residency in San Fransisco after that, but who cares about that. Pitchfork has more on this story. I will be living in Asheville for about a week. This is too awesome.

Videos of the Day

Today's Theme: Psychadelia....

Now something a little less music and more cerebral; This video was made in 1975 by John Whitney, a pioneer in computer graphics. Before digital computing (used for this piece), he used World War 2 surplus analog ballistics computers to use lights to draw directly on film. Music by Manoochehr Sadeghi.

Lollapalooza Line-up Breakdown

Ok, so the Lollapalooza site still hasn't updated itself with all of the line-up, but everyone is reporting it as:

Pearl Jam, Daft Punk, Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Muse, Iggy & the Stooges, Modest Mouse, Interpol, My Morning Jacket, Satellite Party, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Snow Patrol, the Roots, Patti Smith, Kings of Leon, the Black Keys, Regina Spektor, Spoon, Lupe Fiasco, TV on the Radio, Pete Yorn, G. Love & Special Sauce, Paolo Nutini, Amy Winehouse, LCD Soundsystem, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Silverchair, Femi Kuti, Yo La Tengo, the Hold Steady, Jack's Mannequin, Stephen Marley, Sound Tribe Sector 9, M.I.A., Slightly Stoopid, Blonde Redhead, Sparklehorse, Sean Lennon, !!!, Blue October, Son Volt, Motion City Soundtrack, Polyphonic Spree, Peter Bjorn & John, Silversun Pickups, CSS, the Rapture, the Wailers, Roky Erickson, Tapes n Tapes, Heartless Bastards, the View, the Cribs, the Fratellis, Ghostland Observatory, Tokyo Police Club, Rhymefest, Soulive, Cold War Kids, Annuals, Fields, Electric Six, Jim Noir, Elvis Perkins in Dearland, Sam Roberts Band, Black Angels, Charlie Musselwhite, Aqueduct, Juliette & the Licks, Dios, Viva Voce, David Vandervelde, Los Campesinos!, Chin Up Chin Up, Ryan Shaw, Colour Revolt, Satin Peaches, Illinois, Arckid, Mickey Avalon, The 1900s, Bang Bang Bang, Bound Stems, High Class Elite, Carey Ott, Matt Roan.

Daft Punk:

Iggy And The Stooges:

!!!:

Peter Bjorn And John:

So, now it is time to break it down and decide whether I'm going to travel to it again this year. First, The bands that I have not seen yet but want to really bad include: Daft Punk, Iggy And The Stooges, !!!, TV On The Radio (I won't be able to catch the shows tonight or tomorrow), and Peter Bjorn And John. Bands that I've seen multiple times but I will still travel to see include Pearl Jam and Yo La Tengo. Bands I want to see and haven't yet, but wouldn't necessarily convince me to travel to see include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys, Amy Winehouse, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Son Volt, Silversun Pickups, The Rapture, Tapes n Tapes, Annuals, and Illinois.

The big decision all depends on The Smashing Pumpkins and Virgin Festival in Maryland the same weekend. Seeing the Smashing Pumpkins is a big priority for me this year, and so far the only US dates they have are Virgin Fest and Live Earth (and I'm not going to Live Earth). I think i will wait a little while for Virgin Fest to announce its line-up, but I'm leaning towards Lollapalooza for 2 reasons:

1. There is no doubt in my mind that The Smashing Pumpkins will do a plethora of US dates. Billy Corgan is trying to hype this thing up as much as possible with the album drop weirdness, being so mysterious about the Pumpkins tour line-up, and I think he is purposefully not announcing US dates yet to get people to want them to more and create more hype.

2. Besides SP, i doubt that Virgin will be able to deliver a better line-up than Lolla. That line-up there is pretty deep, and if Virgin is going to exclude most if not all of those acts, i just don't see how it could be much better. Here's the mini-line up of the two Canadian versions of Virgin Fest: Vancouver and Toronto. Other than Bjork, who will definitely not be in Maryland, those line-ups are way too commercial radio and small.

Another thing is i am kinda put off by deciding to compete head-to-head with such a great, already established festival. When Music Midtown in Atlanta tried to go head-to-head with Bonnaroo, how did that work out?

So, my final decision is Virgin Fest has about a week or two to put their cards on the table, and if not, I'm heading to see Perry and Company again.

Hey baldy, where them US dates at?

Live Earth Initial Line-up Announced

Al Gore's Live Earth, the environmental verison of Live 8, has announced its headliners. It will be held in different major world cities simultaneously on July 7th of this year (the same day the Smashing Pumpkins drop their new album). Hopefully MTV will do more brilliant coverage of the event (like when they didn't show all of the Pink Floyd reunion). Much like Live 8 ended poverty, these are the musicians that will reverse global warming with music at Giants Stadium in New Jersey:

Kanye West
AFI
Kelly Clarkston
Akon
KC Tunstall
Alicia Keys
Ludacris
Bon Jovi
Sheryl Crow
Melissa Etheridge
Dave Mathews Band
Rihanna
Fall Out Boy
Roger Waters
Smashing Pumpkins
John Mayer
The Police

I have to say it makes me cringe to see Roger Waters and Smashing Pumpkins on the same bill as Kelly Clarkston and Fall Out Boy. Notable acts at the London Live Earth include Beastie Boys, Bloc Party, Foo Fighters, Genesis, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. If you are interested in cutting global CO2 emmissions and are a die hard Bon Jovi fan you can get tickets Monday morning here.

Post-Binge Randomness

Boozing is fun, hangovers not so much. Tonight I'm checking out the RJD2 & Busdriver show at the Variety Playhouse and you should too. Here's a Busdriver video:

Smashing Pumpkins Announce Dates!

So it looks like Billy and Jimmy are really gonna do it. The first Smashing Pumkins tourdates have been announced for festivals in Germany in June. The Smashing Pumpkins official website also claims they are in the studio now and a new album is coming soon. I'm hoping that since Bonnaroo has decided to release their line-up later than usual they are negotiating with the Pumpkins. It appears the Pearl Jam/Bonnaroo rumors are not true as PJ will be touring Europe at the time. A couple more weeks and we'll find out....
